The strong competitor and neighbor of the Louvre
The Orsay Museum is a museum inaugurated in 1986, located along the left bank of the Seine. Its collections present Western art from 1848 to 1914, in a rich richness, painting, sculpture, decorative arts, graphic art, photography, architecture ect. It is one of the largest and most prestigious museums in Europe.
The museum has the largest collection of impressionist and post-impressionist paintings in the world, with nearly 1,100 paintings out of more than 3,650 paintings in total.
Temporary monographic or thematic exhibitions periodically concerning the work of an artist, a current or a question of art history are often set up. An auditorium hosts diverse events, concerts, cinema, shadow theater, conferences and symposia and shows specifically intended for a young audience.
